LCPS’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Division recently held its Opening Day meeting for the 2016-2017 school year at the Woodmen Community Center.
Amy Jones, the district’s new High School/CTE director, welcomed everyone to the new school year and shared updates, policies, plans and procedures. Plans for the Lenoir County National Manufacturing Day on Oct. 7 were shared; this year, participation will be open to 8th through 12th grade CTE students.
The CTE Division later boarded buses and traveled to local manufacturing industries to tour facilities and meet with management and employees. The tours were so well received last year at Opening Day, more tours were requested.
Last year’s tours were at Electrolux and Smithfield Foods. This year tours were at Barnet, Masterbrand and Spirit. In addition to learning more about career options locally, teachers saw many of their former students employed right here at home.
