Jon Eric Adams, whose background as an accountant in the business world has provided a foundation for his work in the realm of school finance, will join LCPS as the district’s finance director following his appointment by the Lenoir County Board of Education on Monday night.
Adams, of Pink Hill, is currently finance officer for Jones County Public Schools, a position he began in February 2015.
He is expected to step into the role vacated by Lisa Davis before her retirement on Dec. 31. Davis has been finance director for the district since 2008 and previously worked in the finance departments of both Lenoir County and Jones County schools.
“I’m excited for the opportunity,” Adams said. “I do not take lightly the position that’s being bestowed as the steward of the budget and funds for Lenoir County Public Schools that are for the benefit of the students.”
Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNC-Wilmington in 2006 and a master’s degree in accounting from East Carolina University in 2008. He worked for seven years as a staff accountant with private firms in Kinston and Beulaville before joining Jones County Public Schools.
He holds a designation as a certified finance officer from the State Board of Education and is a candidate for certification as a school business director from the Business Office Director Academy of the N.C. Association of School Business Officials.
