Sixteen students from South Lenoir High School attended the 2016 National Fall Leadership Conference of the FBLA-PBL earlier this month in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The conference, a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda, focused on helping students leave “A Legacy of Leadership.” It was held Nov. 11-13.fbla_beach shot

“FBLA-PBL conferences are a great place to network, develop your leadership skills and visit exhibitors and vendors,” said Guenevere Boney, FBLA advisor at South Lenoir who attended with fellow advisor Leigh Heath. “The students participated in motivational general sessions, professional development and career planning workshops.”

Felecia Hatcher, author and award-winning entrepreneur, and Fred Grooms, a decorated military officer and an expert in leadership training, keynoted the conference.

Each student donated $5 to March of Dimes and attended a celebration, “Blue Jeans For Babies.”

According to Boney, students returned to school with this thought from the NFLC, “What you do and how well you do it increases your skills and sometimes the best leader is the leader that leads from behind not from the front.”
