A professional organization brought the personal touch to an LCPS staff member’s Christmas by responding to her difficulties overcoming problems left by Hurricane Matthew flooding.

The District 7 chapter of North Carolina Educational Office Professionals made a Christmas gift of $500 to Vanessa Radford, secretary/bookkeeper at Northwest Elementary School whose family was put in a financial pinch because of the flood.eop_donation2

Radford was selected from affected members of the Lenoir County chapter of NCEOP. Debby Barwick of the LCPS district staff and chair of the Professional Standards Programs (PSP) for District 12 NCEOP coordinated the check presentation by Polly Bouldin of Sanford, president of her local EOP and District 7 PSP chair.

Bouldin was at Northwest on Tuesday to meet Radford and make the donation.

“Every year we have a Christmas project. Everybody brought in their ideas and they brought in all kinds of ideas because everybody has needs. This was mine,” Bouldin said. “I said, ‘You know the flood victims down east have really suffered. I think we should pick one of those counties. It won’t be much but it will let them know people care about them.’ ”

Radford said the family’s home on NC 11 was damage by floodwaters. “My husband was out of work. This will help,” she said of the gift in expressing her gratitude to Bouldin.

Bouldin, who recently retired as administrative assistant to the director of prison programs at Central Carolina Community College, said the donation came from money raised during an annual staff development workshop for District 7.
