Kinston High School student Christopher J. Suggs,  founder and CEO of Kinston Teens, has been named by First Lady Michelle Obama to the inaugural Youth Advisory Board for her Better Make Room campaign. The selection was announced Thursday.

Chris, along with 16 other high school and college students, will be recognized during a special reception at The White House by the First Lady on Friday morning . Following the reception, Chris will spend the day at the White House in trainings and workshops for the Youth Advisory Board.

Better Make Room is a public awareness campaign targeted at youth ages 14-19 with the mission of celebrating education and changing the national conversation regarding the college-going process. The campaign has partnered with celebrities as well as some of the country's biggest brands — Vine, Mashable, the CW, Funny or Die and NBCUniversal, among others — to bring the students' stories to light and also point them toward resources they can use to further their education.

In addition to serving as CEO of Kinston Teens, Sugg is a student representative on the Lenoir 2020 Committee and the Governor’s Crime Commission and a member of the N.C. Center for Safer School’s Youth Advisory Council, Crisis Text Line’s Youth Advisory Council and Facebook’s Youth Advisory Board.
